In 1980, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment (NAMCO at the time) announced the PAC-MAN video game. The game was a hit in Japan as well as internationally, becoming a game representative of Japan and launching the character PAC-MAN to international stardom. PAC-MAN is still widely loved across the world today. In 2005, PAC-MAN was awarded by Guinness World Records as "the most successful coin operated game".
In 2019, new ways to play PAC-MAN, including on home consoles and smartphones, are still being developed. The smartphone app "PAC-MAN" has been downloaded over 190 million times, enjoyed by everyone across the globe.
